Secure Cellular Handheld Computer

Western DataCom working with its partner BTS have integrated the MobileCom eXpress into their Alpaca rugged handheld computer. This integration provides the ability to utilize commercial and private cellular networks as a reach back to the devices home network. In addition the use of a L-3 Talon card gives the device the ability to use Type I security to protect communications.

The integrated solution is a combination of aluminum extrusion and our MobileCom eXpress PC/104 card connected to an expansion connector on the rear of the handheld computer. In addition a PCMCIA (CardBus) slot is accessible from a secure cover on the top of the extrusion. Supporting either CDMA or GSM the extension to the device allows the cellular modem to communicate on any network.

Red/Black separation is maintained by utilizing the L-3 Talon card. The red side is the PC (handheld) and the black side is connected to the MobileCom eXpress. With the proper drivers installed the handheld can run either Windows or Linux.
